Half termly reports highlighting effort and attainment
Reporting system
Independent Schools Inspectorate Report 2011:
"Marking is thorough and includes much well deserved praise in addition to suggestions for future improvement, targeted specifically to the needs of the individual pupil. Parents have many opportunities to be actively involved in the work and progress of their children. Several parents attended a lunch-time musical performance during the initial inspection visit, and parents enjoy helping with dramatic productions and other school events. Twice-yearly reports are issued, and were seen to be detailed and thorough. Parents were very satisfied with these and with information they receive at the regular parents’ evenings."
Full written reports
All pupils are assessed at regular intervals and parents are informed of progress throughout the year. Full written reports are sent home to parents twice a year. All pupils receive a full report at the end of the Michaelmas term, Year 8 at the end of the Lent term and Years 3-7 at the end of the Trinity term.
Achievement and Effort Grades
The aim of the assessment system is to provide interim written feedback to pupils during the year about how they are progressing at school. In Years 5 – 8 each pupil will receive a grade for attainment. This will be based upon the pupils’ position in a class or set. A, B or C is awarded depending upon whether they are in the upper, middle or lower third of the class or set. In Years 3 and 4 attainment grades are not awarded.
As well as the attainment grading each pupil is awarded a grade for effort that is either:
1 excellent
2 good
3 satisfactory
4 unsatisfactory
5 poor
A comment is made on the assessment sheet by the pupils’ form tutor. The form tutor talks through the assessment sheet with each pupil individually and discusses a suitable target or targets to achieve over the next half of term. If a pupil receives a 4 or below for any subject, they should be in no doubt as to what they need to do to improve their effort grade next time.
Parents meetings
Twice yearly parents are able to meet with their childs teachers at parents meeting.
Parents are able to contact teachers through the houses, via e-mail or on the telephone to discuss their childs progress.
