Mathematics

Up to the end of Year 11 (Fifth Form), Mathematics is a compulsory, core part of all pupils' education.

In Year 10  three of the six Mathematics sets take the modular GCSE course with public exams in March of the Year 10 plus November and June of Year 11. This course also allows access to the full range of grades A*-C. Sets 2 and 3 take the iGCSE at the end of the fifth form.

Pupils in Set 1 take the iGCSE at the end of Year 10 and go onto study Additional Mathematics in Year 11. This course is an excellent preparation for those who wish to study Double Maths in the Sixth Form.  For those pupils who wish to study AS Maths in the Lower Sixth, an A grade at iGCSE is a fine starting point.

Pupils wishing to study Double Mathematics in the Sixth Form have two choices. They can select Mathematics as only one option and receive 11 lessons a week. Alternatively they can choose Mathematics as two options and receive 16 lessons of Mathematics. This option can be for those not in Set 1 who want to do Double Maths or for those who want to study Mathematics at the highest level.

In recent years some of our pupils have studied further Additional Mathematics (Triple Maths) by attending the weekly supra Maths session provided during Monday Afternoon Activities.
