Quartet-in-Residence: The Carducci Quartet

The arrival of The Carducci Quartet in January 2011, replacing the full-time Head of Strings post, was the start of an exciting new musical venture at Dean Close.

• The Carducci is passionate about educating the next generation of string players and is proving to be a vibrant force in the department
• Between them the Carducci teach a full portfolio of individual instrumental lessons
• The Quartet direct Sinfonia and several string quartets, often inviting woodwind soloists, to perform with them
• Four separate orchestral sting sectionals take place weekly
• The Carducci rehearse in the Music School, encouraging scholars to drop in and experience professional music-making first-hand
• String quartets that appear as A level set works are performed and discussed with the scholars
• A Level candidates submitting string quartets for their composition portfolio have the advantage of hearing their pieces performed by The Carducci, alerting them to some of the technical problems of writing in this genre
