Choral Society

The Choral Society is formed from members of chapel choir, senior musicians, choristers, parents and staff from across the whole of Dean Close School.  Led by the Director of Choral Music, Benjamin Nicholas, rehearsals are held on a Thursday evening from 7-8pm in the Michaelmas Term and for as much of the Lent Term that exists before the concert itself.

The first performance was in 1952 with a performance of Handel’s Messiah, and in more recent years Choral Society has performed Verdi’s Requiem at Cheltenham Town Hall and Haydn's Nelson Mass at the Pittville Pump Room. After nearly 60 years of performance, it has an excellent reputation in Cheltenham and is joined by a professional orchestra and accomplished soloists on the concert night.

There are no auditions; new members are warmly welcomed and tend to join when rehearsals start in September. Some parents relish the opportunity to sing alongside their child, other members just simply enjoy singing and being part of something that is fun and culminates in an impressively high standard.

No subscriptions are requested but members may be required to may be required to pay for a copy/hire of the music.
