Nice Trip 2011
The second French GCSE trip to the Azurlingua Language School in Nice set off in July, 24 hours after the end of the summer term. National Express and British Airways whisked us to the Côte D’Azur for a week’s language lessons, excursions and home stay with French families. This was the first time that all the students had stayed with families and not in the lycée and the home stays really tested their language and life skills. After the group’s difficulties the first morning locating Azurlingua’s summer campus they quickly settled in to lessons and finding their way around Nice, the usual destination being “Hi” plage on the Promenade des Anglais.
The first excursion was to the beautiful port of Antibes, on the tip of the Baie des Anges opposite Nice and home to billionaire’s yachts and the Musée Picasso. The students loved the sand beach, an unusual site on the Côte D’Azur, and many also enjoyed the museum. The second visit was a train trip to Monaco and an afternoon spent soaking up the sights and sounds of the principality and snapping supercars on camera phones. It was also interesting to be in Monaco only a week after Prince Albert’s wedding and to gauge the press and locals’ wildly differing reactions to the recent nuptials. The rest of the time the group were happy to explore Nice and to soak up the sun and the sights.
