Years 9 - 11
In Year 9 (the Fourth form) pupils journey through a vibrant and colourful course that considers a wide range of religious perspectives, beliefs, practices and hotly-contested issues. They begin by exploring ‘what is religion’? where they get the opportunity to make up their own religion, based on the six dimensions. We then look at Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam, Judaism and Christianity in turn and in the last week of the summer term, we visit some of the places of worship these religions hold dear.
The GCSE is completed in Year 10 (Remove). In order to maximise grades, Sets 1-2 complete the full course and sets 3-5, the short course. The short course comprises of the Edexcel Religion & Life where we consider Believing in God, Matters of Life and Death, Marriage and the family and Religion and community cohesion.
Is abortion ever right?
Should the church embrace homosexuality?
Do ghost-sightings prove there is life after death?
Are Muslims all terrorists?
The full course involves a further paper called Religion & Society which looks at issues like the following:
Should religious people go to war?
Does it matter how we treat the environment?
Is the death penalty appropriate for mass murderers?
In the Year 11 (Fifth form), we look at Ethical issues in the news and media (no written work, no homework), bonus!
