Sixth form

In Year 12 (Lower Sixth) we study for the Religious Studies AS level which leads to two summer exams focusing on Philosophy of Religion and Religious Ethics.
In the Philosophy of Religion, we look at the Design Argument, the Cosmological Argument and the Problem of Evil and Suffering. In the Ethics section pupils will study two theories that help us to decide what is right and wrong ; Utilitarianism and Situation Ethics, as well as some applied ethics; War & Peace and Sexual Ethics.
How can a perfectly good God allow such evil in the world?
Can promiscuity be ethically justified?
In the second term pupils are given a choice to specialise in a topic from either the philosophy or ethics stable. Topics from recent years include:
· abortion or euthanasia
· the philosophy of mind and body
· the relationship between science and religion
In Upper Sixth form there is again two examinations which develop work done at AS level, but also incorporate some theology. Puplis look at the following issues;
Should we believe a person who claims to have seen angels?
Should a desire for revenge ever shape a society’s justice system?
They also get a chance to explore what we consider one of the most important questions of life;
Jesus Christ...
A complete nutter - a dangerous psychopath - God????
