FAQs

    Please see below:-

    What facilities do you have?

We have a modern purpose-built building with excellent facilities and resources, including our own hall used for performances, PE and games, an ICT suite with 16 computers, a library and our own Forest School which our children love to visit. Our pupils are also able to make use of some of the outstanding facilities on the 50-acre site we share with the Preparatory and Senior Schools, such as the sports fields, 25m swimming pool, sports centre and tennis courts.

    What are your class sizes?

We have small class sizes which enable each child to gain the individual attention they need. Our teachers know each pupil well, encouraging the development of confidence and challenging pupils to take the next steps in their learning journey. Teachers plan carefully to ensure that each child flourishes and progresses well.

    How is your Curriculum structured?

Our aim at 'The Squirrels' is to provide a wide and varied curriculum to stimulate and nurture your child's development and interests - academic, physical, spiritual, social and emotional. Our curriculum in the early years follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and in Years 1 & 2, the National Curriculum framework, but in addition offers French, ICT, Music, PE and Forest School from Kindergarten upwards, and swimming from Reception upwards.

What co-curricular activities do you offer?

In addition to our wide curriculum, children are able to take extra activities, some of which are charged as extras. On offer are Speech & Drama, instrumental lessons, dance (modern, ballet and tap) gymnastics and tennis. In addition to clubs such as Pre-Prep choir 'The Singing Squirrels' and GLOW club (God Loves Our World).

Do I need to provide lunches or snacks for my child?

No - our lunches and snacks are prepared by our on-site kitchen and offer healthy, delicious food for our pupils. Special dietary needs are catered for.

Is it possible to start during the year if we are relocating?

At 'The Squirrels' we often have pupils joining the School mid-year due to families relocating for business. We pride ourselves on enabling children to settle in quickly. Teachers take time to make sure they feel part of the class and are supported in their learning; each child has a special 'buddy' to help them during the School day.

How do you communicate with parents?

We operate an 'Open Door' policy, whereby parents can approach staff at convenient times and are welcome to discuss day-to-day issues and their child's progress. In addition to this, we hold informal coffee mornings at School and produce a fortnightly newsletter to keep parents up-to-date with events at School. More formal feedback is given through parents' evenings and detailed, written reports.
