Reporting System

    Full written reports

All pupils are assessed at regular intervals and parents are informed of progress throughout the year. Full written reports are sent home to parents twice a year. All pupils receive a full report at the end of the Michaelmas Term, Year 8 at the end of the Lent Term and Years 3-7 at the end of the Trinity Term.

    Achievement and Effort Grades

The aim of the assessment system is to provide interim written feedback to pupils during the year about how they are progressing at school. In Years 5 – 8 each pupil will receive a grade for attainment. This will be based upon the pupils’ position within their year group. A, B or C is awarded depending upon whether the pupils are working towards the upper, middle or lower levels within their cohort. In Years 3 and 4 attainment grades are not awarded.

As well as the attainment grading each pupil is awarded a grade for effort that is either:

    1. excellent
    2. good
    3. satisfactory
    4. unsatisfactory
    5. poor

A comment is made on the assessment sheet by the pupils’ Form Teacher or House Tutor (Years 7 and 8). The Form Teacher or House Tutor talks through the assessment sheet with each pupil individually and discusses a suitable target or targets to achieve over the next half of term. If a pupil receives a 4 or below for any subject, they should be in no doubt as to what they need to do to improve their effort grade next time.

    Parents' meetings

Twice yearly parents are able to meet with their child's teachers at a parents' evening.

Parents are able to contact teachers through the houses, via e-mail or on the telephone to discuss their child's progress.
