    Dean Close St John’s is a thriving independent, co-educational day and boarding school situated on a lovely countryside plot overlooking Chepstow.

    In June 2015 the School and nurseries were acquired by the Dean Close Group.  This is a very exciting time for St John’s and it is felt that this brand new post will offer lots of challenges and enjoyment.      

    This is a new, part-time position for an experienced, highly motivated, marketing professional to manage the day-to-day marketing activity of St John’s Nursery, Pre-prep and Preparatory School, and the two nurseries.  The candidate will report in to the Headmaster and also the Director of Marketing (based in Dean Close Senior School).

    Dean Close seeks to recruit someone with a passion for Business and Economics.  This might come from having studied one or both subjects at degree level, or experience of working in the commercial world and be looking to make a career change into teaching. 

    In the first year, the teaching timetable will be about 50% and the School will pay for and support the post holder through a teacher training qualification.  Thereafter, once qualified, the job holder will become a full time teacher of Business and Economics, making a full contribution to the life of our busy boarding school.

    The School will also consider applications for this role on a part-time fixed term basis for one year with scope for becoming full-time and permanent thereafter, subject to performance measures.

    Person Specification

    • Ability and desire to learn about teaching and pedagogy

    • Ability to inspire and teach pupils of different abilities and backgrounds in a co-educational context

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    • High professional standards and integrity

    • Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and to prioritise within a busy boarding school environment

    • Good ICT skills

       

      Qualifications and Experience

    • An Honours degree, (or Masters) in Economics or Business (or similar) is essential

    • Some experience of the commercial world would be advantageous

    • Some experience of teaching or of education would be advantageous

       

    • Salary:

    • Range £26,000 to £40,000 per annum for a full-time equivalent (negotiable) 

    • Given the part-time nature of the role in the first year, the salary will be about half of the remuneration that will be paid in the second year. 

    • Accommodation might be available in return for duties in our boarding community.

    Full time

    To administer and control the Fees Ledger for all full-time scholars at Dean Close School, to include Dean Close Senior School, Dean Close Preparatory School and Dean Close Pre-Preparatory School. To ensure that all scholars are invoiced correctly and that fees are collected in a timely manner and debtors kept to a minimum to maximise cash flow.

    • Ability to work on his/her own initiative

    • High attention to detail

    • Computer literacy, particularly ability in Excel spreadsheets

    • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

    • A “can-do” attitude and willingness to work as part of a successful and hard working team

    Chaplain's Assistant - Dean Close Preparatory School

    Dean Close wishes to appoint an approachable, enthusaistic, good humoured new member to the Chaplaincy team in September to help to run the various Christian Activities in School. The person will have the understanding and ability to support the Evangelical Christian activities at Dean Close and have a willingness to stand up in front of groups of children to speak, lead services and Assemblies, presenting the Gospel in a creative way. The successful candidate will be prepared to be involved in all aspects of boarding school life, have an interest in School Sport to be able to be involved in Games.
