    Dean Close St John’s is a thriving independent, co-educational day and boarding school situated on a lovely countryside plot overlooking Chepstow.

    In June 2015 the School and nurseries were acquired by the Dean Close Group.  This is a very exciting time for St John’s and it is felt that this brand new post will offer lots of challenges and enjoyment.      

    This is a new, part-time position for an experienced, highly motivated, marketing professional to manage the day-to-day marketing activity of St John’s Nursery, Pre-prep and Preparatory School, and the two nurseries.  The candidate will report in to the Headmaster and also the Director of Marketing (based in Dean Close Senior School).

    The Bacon Theatre | Dean Close Services Ltd & Dean Close School

    Two Theatre Technicians work in tandem at The Bacon Theatre, sharing the responsibility for technical provision across the Dean Close School site; based in The Bacon Theatre and in addition providing technical support for associated venues, including the Tuckwell Amphitheatre, The Prince Michael Hall, 1914 Centenary Hall, Dean Close Drama Studio and also the School Chapel.

    The Theatre Technician’s roles are to support the year-round public programme of events in The Bacon Theatre: touring theatre, live bands, classical ballet, family shows, celebrity speakers, satellite broadcasts and cinema screenings, as well as outdoor staged events, all of which run alongside a substantial schedule of venue hire and high calibre Dean Close School productions.

    Casual Theatre Technicians employed on zero hour contracts play an important part in supporting this provision alongside the two core Technical staff.

    Casual Theatre Technicians are responsible to:  Theatre Technicians, Theatre Manager

    Main Duties:

    • To provide assistance to the Theatre Technicians and to theatre and school staff

      • Opportunity to work across the board on a range of staged productions and events in all venues:

        • Assisting in rigging/operating stage equipment and moving stage furniture

        • To assist with the setup and operation of all technical equipment within the theatre.

        • Programming and operating lighting control systems

        • Mixing sound and system engineering

    • To be able to manage simple tasks without assistance

       

    • To assist house technical staff in providing technical support with get in and get out to all visiting companies as required

      • Supporting the construction and/or delivery of stage sets

      • Ensuring excellent client liaison and provision of a high quality technical service

         

    • To keep all areas of the theatre clean and tidy and return items to storage after use.

      • Maintaining high standards of all technical equipment, stage effects and the stage space

      • Possible electronic repair and maintenance of faulty equipment where required

         

    • To uphold high standards of safety, behaviour and operation for the venues in accordance with Health & Safety procedures

    Hourly rate: £9.73 per hour plus holiday pay £1.17 per hour

    This position is casual role with a zero-hours contract. 

    Subject to satisfactory references and DBS check.

    Oversight

    • The Chaplain will act as Line Manager with oversight of all commitments ensuring that a suitable balance is maintained.
    • In all matters to do with the Spiritual life of the School, report to the Chaplain.
    • Sports and games commitments will be directed by and report to the Director of Sport.

    Remuneration: £12,006 per annum

    Accommodation will be provided throughout the year with all meals during term-time.  This post requires weekly evening and weekend commitments during term-time.  There are substantial holidays at Christmas, Easter and Summer in addition to Half Term weeks and Exeat weekends.

    Dean Close School is a thriving independent, co-educational day and boarding school set on a beautiful 50-acre site on the edge of Cheltenham.     The Easter Revision Tutor role includes the following responsibilities:

    • 30 hours of tuition from 9.15 to 5.15 Monday to Friday

    • Setting and marking preps - A level students to do 1.5 hours of prep per subject and GCSE 45 minutes per subject

    • Writing an end of course report for each student

    Qualifications and Experience

    • A strong educational track record including an Honours Degree in the chosen subject and preferably a teaching qualification.

    • The ability to be flexible and to teach across different exam boards if necessary and to mixed ability groups is essential.

    • Experience of teaching on revision courses is preferred but not essential.

    • Accommodation may be available for teachers who do not live in the Cheltenham area

    Catering Front Of House Apprentice

    Palmer & Howells Ltd at The Dean Close Foundation, Cheltenham

    A unique opportunity to join a very busy Palmer and Howells Ltd catering operation at The Dean Close Foundation in Cheltenham. You will need to be a genuine foodie and enjoy the quirky nature of the Catering and Hospitality industry.

    We will offer you a 12 month Apprenticeship encapsulating the many and varied facets of this industry. You will be Barista & Silver Service trained as well as gaining a real understanding of the necessity of some of the other jobs that are required. This apprenticeship includes direct involvement with the fun and quirky Vintage Dean Bean refreshments vehicle. Full Barista training would be given for this other part of the role and there will be an opportunity for the right candidate, to develop the catering offered to the Dean Close community for external events. This is very much a hands on role. You will develop real experience of how a catering operation functions from a Front of House perspective.
