Another National Final for Dean Close, this time in the European
Youth Parliament. The Lower Sixth team
of 10 pupils won the Thames Valley round of the competition at the Oxford Union
this week and were duly awarded a place in the prestigious National Finals in
Liverpool. If they are successful in the
National Finals they have the opportunity to represent the UK in an
international competition held in either Amsterdam or Munich next year.
Harriet Davis and Charlotte Ivers were the main speakers and
proposed a debate on education reform in the EU. The full team consisted of the
following Lower Sixth pupils: Jonathan Cahill, Harriet Davis, Hannah Dodd, Zoe
Firth, Charlotte Ivers, Martin Turel, Jack Woods and Jennifer Zhang.
Head of History, Paul Davies, said ”I was really impressed
with their preparation which was done mostly on their own, showing real
independence of thought. The Dean Close
speeches in particular were very focused and commended by the judges.”
