We were thrilled that Olympic Team GB including the Head of the Olympic Committee, Andy Hunt, ex Olympian diver Leon Taylor and Team GB’s mascot, Pride the Lion, were able to visit us at Dean Close Preparatory and Pre-Preparatory School before the torch arrived in Cheltenham.

The Prep School were gathered on the school field on a wonderfully sunny day, to welcome the Olympic team to Dean Close. Our Head of Prep School, Eleanor Gammon, introduced Andy, Leon and Pride, and Leon Taylor gave us a talk all about his experiences as an Olympian.

The children then lined the path and cheered as Pride the Lion raced all the children who have birthdays during the Olympics, as he ran to the Olympic Opening Ceremony for the Pre-prep.

The children from the Pre-prep, who were gathered in the sunshine to watch Pride run, were representing 10 countries which will compete in the Olympic Games. The Nursery were particularly proud to be representing Great Britain. All the pupils paraded round the playground and marched past our Olympic guests wearing their Olympic colours.

Mr Hunt, Pride the Lion and Leon Taylor then officially opened the Pre-prep Olympics and showed the children the Olympic torch. This wonderful day which will forever remain in our memories ended when Team GB lit our Olympic torch.
