We were thrilled that Olympic Team GB including the Head of the Olympic Committee, Andy Hunt, ex Olympian Diver Leon Taylor and Team GB’s mascot, Pride the Lion, were able to visit us at Dean Close Preparatory and Pre-preparatory School before the torch arrived in Cheltenham.

Everyone at The Squirrels waited in anticipation for Pride the Lion to arrive from the Prep School.  Children lined the path and cheered as he raced all the children who have birthdays during the Olympics, on his way to the Pre-Prep Olympic Opening Ceremony.

The children from the Pre-Prep, who were gathered in the sunshine to watch Pride run, were representing 10 countries which will compete in the Olympic Games. The Nursery were particularly proud to be representing Great Britain. All the pupils paraded round the playground and marched past our Olympic guests wearing their Olympic colours.  The special guests then took part in the special Squirrels Opening Ceremony, during which the children sang, presented information about each represented country and explained the Olympic Values.  We were thrilled when Leon Taylor inspired us about training hard to be an Olympian and then Mr Hunt told us all about the GB Olympic Team.  The ceremony was finished in style when the Squirrels torch was lit from one of the real Olympic torches!

This wonderful day will forever remain in our memories forever.
