Despite the Senior School entering the lowest number of candidates in recent years (due to exams, etc), Dean Close had its strongest Festival ever, beating the previous record (2010) by three awards to amass 96 in total. This was largely due to an extremely good showing by Dean Close Prep which came away with 46 medals and trophies: the largest ever total by the Prep School and virtually half of the overall haul.

In the 13 & 14 yrs age group, Dean Close won every single Acting and Verse Speaking class (13 classes in total).

Particularly fine work came from Rebecca Daltry, Jake Deasy and Amy Porter (who also won 2 cups for singing) who each came away with three trophies, with Jake winning the prestigious Lyric Championship Final that has only been won twice before by Dean Close.

Dean Close competed in 69 of the 97 separate classes at the Festival, winning 35. Of the 210 medals and trophies available, the School won 96. This near 50% success rate is incredibly promising, especially given that this was by no means our finest year in terms of either participation or participants.

Head of Speech and Drama, Rebecca Vines, said: “What was especially pleasing was the well-mannered, modest and gracious way the pupils conducted themselves throughout: I have never before heard such positive and pleasant comments about our pupils along the Town Hall corridors.”
