It was a great pleasure to welcome Jason Gardener as our guest of honour at Speech day just weeks before the Olympics 2012 started in London.

Jason shared his memories of the day he won his gold medal as part of the 4 x 100m relay team at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004. It was a fascinating and inspirational story of training, team work and self belief.

Jason Gardener is one of the UK’s all time great sprinters. He achieved one of his ultimate ambitions by winning his Gold in Athens. Earlier that year he became World Indoor Champion over 60m. He is also winner of four European Indoor championship titles over 60m and a Commonwealth Games Champion for the 4x100m relay.

He is a member of the very select 'sub 10 second club' for 100m with a personal best of 9.98 seconds and he captained the Great Britian & Northen Ireland Athletics team.

Jason has a BSC Honours degree in Media and Sociology. He was awarded an MBE for services to athletics and has been made a Freeman of the City of Bath.

After handing out the prizes Jason spent a long time with the children, signing autographs and being photographed with his gold medal.

This very humble athlete brought the 2012 Olympics alive for the whole Prep School as we moved into the summer holidays and looked forward to the greatest sporting competition of all being played out on our very shores in just four weeks.
