    Dean Close St John’s is a thriving independent, co-educational day and boarding school situated on a lovely countryside plot overlooking Chepstow.

    In June 2015 the School and nurseries were acquired by the Dean Close Group.  This is a very exciting time for St John’s and it is felt that this brand new post will offer lots of challenges and enjoyment.      

    This is a new, part-time position for an experienced, highly motivated, marketing professional to manage the day-to-day marketing activity of St John’s Nursery, Pre-prep and Preparatory School, and the two nurseries.  The candidate will report in to the Headmaster and also the Director of Marketing (based in Dean Close Senior School).

    Gap Year Matron - Dean Close Preparatory School

    The Matron is involved in the everyday running of the House, assisting with the laundry, supervising the children throughout the day, taking part in school outings and trips at weekends and generally taking part in all aspects of a thriving Boarding School life.

    Apart from additional responsibilities which may arise, the job involves supervising the children mornings and evenings and at other times during the day, (for example when changing for games).  The Resident Matron will care for the children when they are unwell and enter into all aspects of their care and support in their daily lives.  As such the Matron will act as a kind of “big sister/favourite aunt” interacting with them on both the fun side of life, as well as being their confidant,  offering a support system in the more emotional aspects of their lives.

    Tewkesbury Abbey Schola Cantorum - Tenor Lay Clerk

    Tewkesbury Abbey Schola Cantorum seeks to appoint a full-time tenor lay clerk from September 2016. The choir sings the weekday Evensong services at Tewkesbury Abbey during school term time. The singing schedule of the choir enables lay clerks to undertake freelance concert work with ease at weekends.

    General Builder

    General Builder

    Reporting to the Dean Close Estates Bursar via the DCS Estates Foreman, the General Builder will be responsible for providing an efficient, cost effective maintenance service. The role requires independent and collegiate working in order to carry out general building projects above and below ground as a part of reactive and planned preventative maintenance. The role requires working flexibly and safely using cross-trade practices across all The Dean Close Foundation sites (Dean Close Schools, Dean Close St Johns Schools and the four children’s nurseries) and maintenance of the equipment necessary to deliver these services.  The role is primarily based at Dean Close School in Cheltenham but includes visits to sites in Chepstow and one in Newport.

    It is essential to recognise that providing the best possible educational environment in line with the ethos of the Dean Close Foundation is at the heart of this role. A flexible, diplomatic approach when liaising with academic and residential staff is important, for example by giving adequate notice when requesting access to public and private space.

    This role is subject to DBS clearance and adherence to the school safeguarding and other policies.

    Painter and Decorator

    The role requires a confident and self-motivated person with the ability to work unsupervised, or in a team in order to plan, organise and deliver work schedules in a timely manner.  Applicants should have extensive practical experience supported by industry recognised qualifications such as an NVQ level 2/3 in Painting and Decorating or other equivalent qualifications or experience to include other aspects of trade such as plastering and tiling. Computer literacy, strong planning, organisational and communication skills are essential. The Painter and Decorator will also be expected generate a safe working environment and maintain the equipment necessary to deliver these services.
