    Dean Close St John’s is a thriving independent, co-educational day and boarding school situated on a lovely countryside plot overlooking Chepstow.

    In June 2015 the School and nurseries were acquired by the Dean Close Group.  This is a very exciting time for St John’s and it is felt that this brand new post will offer lots of challenges and enjoyment.      

    This is a new, part-time position for an experienced, highly motivated, marketing professional to manage the day-to-day marketing activity of St John’s Nursery, Pre-prep and Preparatory School, and the two nurseries.  The candidate will report in to the Headmaster and also the Director of Marketing (based in Dean Close Senior School).

    Head Electrician

    HEAD OF THE ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT

     (Head Electrician)

    Reporting to the Dean Close Estates Bursar via the DCS Estates Foreman, the Head Electrician will be responsible for daily delivery of planned and reactive electrical maintenance tasks, as well as new installations, across all Dean Close Foundation sites (Dean Close Schools, Dean Close St Johns Schools and the four children’s nurseries). The role is primarily based at Dean Close School in Cheltenham but includes visits to sites in Chepstow and one in Newport. The role requires independent and collegiate working in order to develop, plan, organise and provide the following: fully serviceable fixed wiring and emergency lighting in all buildings which are subjected to mandatory fixed wiring tests; Portable Appliance Testing (PAT); a safe working environment; maintenance of the equipment necessary to deliver these services.  The Head Electrician will also manage the Electrical Engineer and participate in apprenticeship programmes.

    A thorough knowledge of electrical installations, repairs, maintenance, electrical equipment maintenance, coupled with computer literacy, strong planning, organisational and communication skills are essential. The role requires a good knowledge of Health and Safety legislation to ensure that all work is conducted within this framework and with appropriate risk assessments in place. 

    It is essential to recognise that providing the best possible educational environment in line with the ethos of the Dean Close Foundation is at the heart of this role. A flexible, diplomatic approach when liaising with academic and residential staff is important, for example by giving adequate notice when requesting access to public and private space.

    This role is subject to DBS clearance and adherence to the school safeguarding and other policies.

    Electrical Houseperson

    Non Residential Matron

    Non Residential Matron

    The non-residential Matron is involved in the everyday running of the House. This role combines working in the Senior Girls’ Boarding House under the supervision of the House-parents and the Senior Matron and working alongside a team of other Matrons and medical staff within the school. 

    Working hours:

     24.5 hours a week with some Sundays (10:00am – 5:30pm, usually one a month)

    The Day Porter will be responsible for helping to maintain the site and its security through rounds and locking up duties; simple repairs and maintenance; delivering letters and packages; transporting, moving, carrying and arrange furniture and equipment across all Cheltenham based Dean Close Foundation Schools.  The role is primarily based at Dean Close School in Cheltenham but may require visits to sites in Chepstow and one in Newport. The role requires independent and collegiate working in order to support daily school operations through supporting the provision of a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors to the Dean Close Foundation.

    Hours of work will normally be: 06:30-15:00hrs Mon-Fri, with flexibility required for additional hours when events dictate (on all sites).

    Senior Theatre Technician -  The Bacon Theatre

    This permanent vacancy has become available in The Bacon Theatre and we seek to appoint a Senior Theatre Technician to support a dynamic schedule of theatrical productions, concerts, cinema screenings, satellite broadcasts and commercial events for both external clients and for the performance and internal event requirements of Dean Close.  This would be across multiple performance venues: The Bacon Theatre, Tuckwell Amphitheatre, Prince Michael Hall, 1914 Centenary Hall, Dean Close Drama Studio and Chapel.

    The Office Administrator will be responsible for the efficient daily running of the Dean Close Foundation Estates Department’s Office.  The Foundation’s estates comprise: Dean Close Schools, Dean Close St Johns Schools and the four children’s nurseries.  Based at Dean Close School in Cheltenham the role requires independent and collegiate working in order to ensure the office administration required to support the smooth running of such a diverse estate, is delivered effectively.

    The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, computer literacy and touch typing skill are essential as are strong administrative, organisational and communication skills. The role requires a good knowledge of office administration, including filing and order processing.  An awareness of Health and Safety legislation is useful to ensure that work is conducted within this framework and with appropriate risk assessments in place.

    Head of GRounds Care

    A Head of Grounds Care is to be appointed to have responsibility for the daily delivery of general grounds care and external area maintenance across all The Dean Close Foundation sites (Dean Close Schools, Dean Close St Johns Schools and the four children’s nurseries). The role is primarily based at Dean Close School in Cheltenham but includes visits to sites in Chepstow and one in Newport.

    Extensive practical experience is required (at least five years) supported by industry recognised grounds care qualifications such as IOG level 1&2 in sports and/or pitch maintenance and spraying; NVQ in Amenity Horticulture; BTEC national diploma or national certificate in Turf Science and Sports Ground Management; City and Guilds Advanced National Certificate in Horticulture

    Estates General Builder

    Estates General Builder

    Full Time -  40 hours

    An Estates General Builder is required with at least five year's proven experience of working on old and new buildings to work across all of The Dean Close Foundation sites in Cheltenham, Chepstow and Newport. Experience of brickwork including alterations and repairs to existing brickwork; drainage laying and repairs; plastering to include hard wall, renovation and plaster board, experience working on listed buildings is desirable.
