The drama department held Commedia dell’Arte workshops in Fifth and Lower Sixth classes today in preparation for seeing the National Theatre’s famous production of One Man Two Guvnors in the Bacon Theatre – starring James Corden in his award-winning performance from 2009. They learnt about the origins of drama and sitcom from the 15th century and how it transfers to so much that we see on our TV screens and theatres today – Friends, Fawlty Towers, and of course Shakespeare. The pupils enjoyed bringing the stock characters of Pantalone, Dottore, Magnifico, Arlecchino and Columbina to life.
