Last week saw a departure from the usual biennial Advent Concert program and instead focused on the theme ‘A Night at the Movies’. There were, of course, some traditional Christmas numbers with the Chamber Choir giving moving renditions of Have yourself a Merry little Christmas and a lively Winter Wonderland  but there was also a wide array of different musical styles ranging from John Williams to Samuel Barber, performed by many different groups and a performing force of over 85 pupils. There were stunning solos from Lois Dunning, performing a Tango from the film Scent of a Woman, Chloe Dunwell playing the moving theme from Schindler’s List, Bethany Rogers captivating the audience with Gabriel’s Oboe from The Mission, a classic Bond number, Skyfall, sung by Georgia Hubbard and the light hearted Promenade sequence from Gershwin’s Shall we Dance, played on the clarinet by Oscar Jack. All groups, Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Ripieno Strings and Sinfonia really rose to the occasion producing a slick show wonderfully held together by fantastic lighting, audio visuals and of course the entertaining compere, Lloyd Allington.
