Four DCPS pupils travelled to Birmingham for the National Prep Schools’ Athletics Championships, having qualified from the South West regionals a couple of weeks ago. The Nationals were at the Alexander Stadium, in Birmingham, often host to international meetings, so it was a fantastic experience for our athletes.
Andrew King ran in the U13 100m heats but unfortunately was unable to progress. Corinna Clarkson was 8th in the U13
1500m, running a personal best time. Caitlin competed in the U12 long jump, achieving a personal best of 4.28m and receiving a bronze medal for third place and a personal best of 4.28m. Lorna competed in the U14 long jump and her 2nd jump of 5.08m was enough to earn her the gold medal! She then ran in the 100m heats and progressed to the final, breaking the championship record in doing so with a time of 12.78s. She won the final comfortably earning her second gold medal of the day and her third National title of the term – two in athletics and one in tennis! Congratulations to everyone who took part.
