This year at the Cheltenham Literature Festival Pre-Prep sponsored events celebrating some important birthdays of our best-loved children’s authors and some of their most famous characters. Maisy was 25 years old, Beatrix Potter would have been 150 and it is 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl!

Maisy Mouse took families on a ‘trip’ to London to celebrate her birthday, followed by some traditional party games and then shared a delicious cheese cake flavoured cake with her guests. ‘Beatrix Potter’ read the wonderful ‘Tale of Peter Rabbit’ and to the children’s delight Peter Rabbit made a surprise appearance to teach the audience a wonderful song, complete with actions, before sharing his favourite type of cake (carrot cake), to celebrate the 150th birthday of Beatrix Potter.

Matilda, Charlie, Fantastic Mr Fox, George and the Enormous Crocodile, led visitors on a fizz whizzing,
gloriumptious quiz around the Imperial Gardens, asking questions such as“How Old is Mr Twit?” and “What is
the most favourite food of the Enormous Crocodile?”. Children also had great fun at the Dean Close Marquee
making up revolting rhymes and hanging them on the ‘Washing Rhyme’, delving into the revolting lucky dip or
simply choosing a super floaty, brightly coloured balloon.

Dr Carolyn Shelley, Headmistress of the Pre-Prep, said, “The Cheltenham Literature Festival is a great
opportunity to encourage your child’s interest in books, the events are fun and engaging and really help to
bring some favourite children’s stories tolife.”
