Introducing Caldecote’s House Parents
Mike and Sophie Cooper are Caldecote’s new Houseparents, as of September 2016. Mike has worked at Dean Close for 5 years, primarily as a Maths, Geography and Games teacher and has also been responsible for the activities programme and cross-country running. Last year he was Caldecote’s Deputy Houseparent, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
His wife Sophie, works at a nearby special needs school and is very much looking forward to becoming more involved in daily life at DCPS. They are moving into Caldecote with their two children, Evie (Year 5) and Alfie (Year 3).
We know they are going to be fantastic Houseparents and thought you might like to learn a little bit more about them!
What do love most about being at Dean Close?
Mike loves the fact that the School is such a close-knit community. Sophie enjoys being a DCPS parent, she explains, “I love the opportunities our children experience in and out of lessons.”
What do you like to do in your spare time?
“Doing or watching anything sport related, I can often be found running around the streets of Cheltenham preparing for my next half marathon.” enthused Mike.
Sophie enjoys long family walks in the countryside, going to the theatre and snuggling up in the warm with a good book.
What’s your favourite food?
We both love almost anything Italian.
What is your favourite film?
Guess who liked what!!
The Great Escape or Top Gun.
Who would you most like to meet?
Mike would really like to meet Jonny Wilkinson and Sophie would like to meet either Shakespeare or Martin Luther King.
Where would you most like to visit, that you haven’t already been?
They had better save their air miles – both Sophie and Mike would like to visit some far flung places – either The Galapagos Islands or Kenya!
Do you prefer Rugby or Football?
Mike answered this one! That’s a tough one. I’d have to say rugby but I do love watching Spurs win too!
What activity would you most like to try, that you haven’t already?
Mike has a head for heights and would love to try skydiving! White water rafting would be Sophie’s choice!
Do you have any special talents?
“I am quite good at backwards darts and have been known to perform the odd magic trick in lessons too!” said Mike. Perhaps you can ask Mr Copper to show you a trick or two when you meet him!
