INTRODUCING FORTFIELD’S HOUSEPARENTS
Jo and Jonny Sheldon are the new Fortfield Houseparents (2019) where they live with their little boy, Ben. Jo has worked at Dean Close for six years, primarily as a Junior Forms’ teacher and previously as Head of PSHCE and Wellbeing. Her husband Jonny is the Head of History and Politics at Dean Close Senior School, where they lived for two years as resident tutors in one of the senior boarding houses.
We are so excited about being Fortfield Houseparents and throwing ourselves into the fantastic boarding community – with trips, movie nights, trampoline fun, baking, games and lots of laughter! Having boarded myself for 11 years, I know how important it is for Fortfield to be a home from home.
Who are Jo and Jonny?
Apart from being fantastic Houseparents, we thought you might like to learn about their likes and dislikes, loves and passions – we hope you enjoy getting to know them.
What do you love most about being a Houseparent?
Having boarded myself from the age of seven, I am really keen to make sure every girl under our care feels at home and has the best experience at DCPS that they can.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
We both love eating delicious food (although that is often in the form of Deliveroo from TGIs!), going to the cinema, being a part of our church, reading and travelling, as well as chasing after Baby Ben. Jonny enjoys running, gardening and pretty much anything to do with History, whereas Jo prefers netball and a game of banagrams with her friends.
If you could be an animal what would you be and why?
Jo says that Jonny would be a cat: because they basically just nap all the time, get fed regularly and are very independent. She would like to be a dolphin because they are sociable, fun and it would be cool to be able explore underwater and swim that well; plus, who doesn’t love a dolphin?!
What’s your favourite food?
Spaghetti Bolognese. We are well-matched pair. A simple classic!
What’s your favourite film?
Jonny struggled to decide but the original Star Wars trilogy and the Matrix were pretty high on the list whereas Jo said, “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy without much hesitation.
What’s your favourite time of day?
Just as the sun goes down and the sky turn those beautiful colours – Jo. Any time I can nap! – Jonny
Where would you most like to visit, that you haven’t already been?
We would both love to go to Florence – Jonny for the historical sites and gelato and Jo for the sun and the pasta…
Do you prefer Rugby or Football?
Definitely big Liverpool fans in the Sheldon household – football all the way. The first outfit Baby Ben wore was his Liverpool vest.
How long have you been a Houseparent and what do you enjoy most about it?
“Three days… and so far, so good! I have loved getting to know the girls, especially seeing how much they look out for each other and it is such a privilege to be a part of this Fortfield family.” Jo.
