MEET THE HEAD OF HOUSE – Laura Rodriguez-Arias
I am from Spain and I moved to the UK at the start of Year 9 to learn English. Looking back on my first year, I remember how scared I was to move to a different country. Where they spoke a different language, especially because I was going to be a boarder, which I had never experienced, and live with all these people who I had never met. Despite this fear, once I walked into my dorm (on the top floor of this huge house) and got a chance to start speaking to the girls in my corridor, I realised that we were all in the same boat. We were all starting something new, whether they had moved up from the prep school or from a different school, and we were all nervous for this new chapter. From my many years here at Dean Close, and in Fawley, I have had the chance to meet new people and learn from them. I can assure you that Fawley truly is the place to be!
I am currently studying, Art, Biology and Business for A-level, and I am hoping to do hotel management at University, so I, as well as many of the Sixth Formers, who all have different strengths, will be happy to help you if you are struggling with any subjects in school.
Fawley House is often described as a boarding house with a very homely atmosphere, and with a huge variety of girls: full boarders, flexi boarders, girls from countries all around the world as well and many from the UK, girls who love maths, sport, science or languages; no two girls are the same. In Fawley we are known for our unity within and between year groups, as well as for our team spirit, even if sometimes we might not be 100% sure of what we are doing! Fawley truly is a place where everyone supports one another and we work to make sure that the community supports every single member of the House — being part of the House means someone will always be looking out for you when you need it. Our aim for the new girls coming, whether you are starting from the very beginning in Fourth Form or joining any of the later years, is to make you feel welcome and part of the “Fawley Fam”. All of the House look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our community.
