Towards the end of last year, Cassian Pichler-Roca won BBC Radio Two Young Chorister of the Year Competition alongside Emilia Jaques (who won the girls’ section). Since then he has been incredibly busy performing in various concerts and recording for the BBC. Most recently he took part in the Good Friday broadcast At the Foot of the Cross, broadcast on Radio 2. This month’s BBC Music magazine features a CD of Cassian alongside Emilia, comprising pieces for treble and soprano voices, including works by Britten, Franck, Fauré and Rutter. They are accompanied by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Darius Battiwalla, who also features on the album as their accompanist on the piano and organ.
Simon Bell, Director of Schola Cantorum said, “This album is a showcase for the two winners of this prestigious BBC competition and is a delightful mixture of both solo pieces for the individual winners and duets where they perform together. There is something in it for everyone! We are very proud of the Cassian’s achievement in the competition and hope that those who buy the CD will enjoy listening to the diverse repertoire.”
