We were delighted with our Squirrels’ entries for the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts. We entered the U8 group for musical ensembles, the U8 class for choirs and the U8 Choral Speaking class. The children demonstrated great enthusiasm, enjoyment and poise on stage and were complemented by the judges in both their categories.
The Squirrel Strings, consisting of 18 performers from Reception to Year 2, played a medley of songs from ‘The Sound of Music’ – all the children played very well indeed and the adjudicator said how much she enjoyed their playing, their very musical performance and their obvious love of music-making! We were thrilled when they came first in their class and returned to school with the KMF cup for the fourth year running!
The Singing Squirrels entered the U7 class for choirs. They sang two songs, ‘Playing on the Beach’ and ‘When will we learn’, impressing the adjudicator with their tunefulness, energy, and confidence. Although they did not win the class, they greatly enjoyed their performance and should be proud of gaining ‘Honours’ and coming a close second!
Finally, the Year Two choral speaking group presented their piece, ‘The Tummy Beast’ and really performed with great enthusiasm and humour! The adjudicator greatly enjoyed the interpretation of the words, the individual parts as well as the chorus and we were thrilled when they received the ‘Selwyn Challenge Cup’ coming first in the U8 class.
It is wonderful to see such our young children wanting to sing, play and act – well done to all of you and a special thank you to all the teachers for working with them every week and inspiring them to achieve such high standards.
