Drop Off and Pick Up
Thank you to all our parents for their ongoing help in making these arrangements as safe and as smooth as possible.
Please can we remind you of the following:
- We strongly recommend that cars do not turn right on to the Lansdown Road. This is a very busy road and there have been several previous collisions at this point. It can also cause long delays for other members of the public.
- The car park at the back of the Millennium building is a staff only car park, parents should not be using this car park for drop off as it is not supervised by staff.
YEAR 4 PSHCE CURRICULUM: RELATIONSHIPS EDUCATION
Dear Parent(s), /Guardian(s) of pupils in Year 4,
As part of our PSHCE scheme of work we will be teaching about body changes both physical and emotional; and what happens to us in puberty. We will also look at personal hygiene and the challenging of gender stereotypes. We will show DVDs or you tube clips which talk about the changes at puberty or gender stereotypes; all the materials are designed by the local authority Gloucestershire Healthy Living department at Shire Hall, the county council headquarters in Gloucester. They are designed for 7 to 11 year olds and appropriate to the age and maturity of our pupils.
The children have an opportunity to ask questions both in groups but also privately via a questions box in the classroom. You may find your child wants to ask questions about what is being discussed.
If you feel you would like to ask more questions about this, please do feel free to email me: (sadavies@deanclose.org.uk)
Kind regards
Sarah Davies (Head of PSHCE and Wellbeing)
YEAR 5 PSCHE CURRICULUM: RELATIONSHIPS
Dear Parent(s) /Guardian(s) of pupils in Year 5,
As part of our PSHCE scheme of work we will be teaching about body changes both physical and emotional; what happens to us in puberty. We will also look at personal hygiene and genetic inheritance. The latter is treated with sensitivity and we will be mindful of possible adoption situations, and children being cared for by those who are not their biological parents. This will be referred to as a normal family situation, just like any other but with a genetic difference. We will show DVDs which talk about the changes at puberty; all the materials are designed by the local authority Gloucestershire Healthy Living department at Shire Hall, the county council headquarters in Gloucester. They are designed for 7 to 11 year olds and appropriate to the age and maturity of our pupils.

YEAR 7 PARENTS AND GUARDIANS: PUBERTY LESSONS
Dear Year 7 Parent(s), /Guardians,
As part of our PSHCE curriculum this term, we are doing a session on Puberty during Week 7 (we are currently in Week 5). This will involve learning how to describe the physical and emotional changes that take place during puberty and developing strategies to handle these changes confidently and happily.
We will also discuss in subsequent weeks the following issues: the difference between unhealthy and healthy relationships (i.e how to avoid any controlling or manipulative behaviour) and the vital concept of consent in all relationships whether they be sexual or not. This includes how to give consent and ask for consent to physical touch, and entering a person’s private space. This is not necessarily a sexual matter but also involves respectful friendship and healthy relationships in general.
If you have any queries, please email me using the following address: sadavies@deanclose.org.uk
Kind regards
Sarah Davies (Head of PSHCE and Wellbeing)
