In June, Dean Close announced that all four schools in the Dean Close Foundation; Dean Close School, Dean Close Preparatory School, Dean Close Pre-preparatory School and Dean Close St John’s School; had been judged ‘Excellent’ for both pupils’ Achievement and their Personal Development.

The inspectors found many areas of excellence but in particular they appreciated the outstanding personal qualities of our pupils, commenting on their mature, caring, respectful and self-disciplined approach which helps to create ‘an extremely harmonious and engaging community’.  This is closely aligned to our values and is in no small part due to the successful combination of our incredibly dedicated staff with our supportive parents and community.

While there was a great deal to be proud of in the reports from the ISI inspectors, there was also a disappointment in the ‘Focused Compliance Inspection’, where the schools were found not to be fully compliant on the issue of pre-employment checks for new members of staff. This matter was taken extremely seriously by the Leadership Team and the Trustees, who immediately set to work on the production and implementation of a detailed action plan to address the area of concern. A team of inspectors visited in October resulting in the schools being passed as fully compliant.

Warden, Emma Taylor, says: “My congratulations go to Heads Bradley Salisbury, Paddy Moss, Carolyn Shelley and Ruth Frett, as well as to the Bursar, Adrian Bowcher and his team of support staff, for all the work they do to ensure that the schools are indeed excellent in their provision for our pupils, who remain our priority in everything we do.”
