2017 is shaping up to be a strong year for the Dean Close Equestrian Team. The recent string of successes began with Molly Davies, winning the Fox/Open 1.10m/1.15m at Arena UK on her pony Blue. Molly’s time was the quickest in the Show Jumping class by four seconds. Molly also competed on her pony Roy in the 1.20m round where she finished fourth out of 70, completing two very quick clear rounds, and narrowly missing qualifying in the 1.30m/1.35m class despite close competition in a very tough event.
The success continued with Dean Close winning the Dressage County Cup Qualifier to go forward as the team to represent Gloucestershire at the Dressage County Cup Championships in April. The team, consisting of Mimi Payton (Prep School) , Emma Williams, Mollie Tice and Lydia Ward, secured the qualification with a strong win, three points clear of the team in second place. Bonnie Evans, Charlotte Finney and Lydia Ward (competing on a second pony) performed outstandingly to secure third place for Dean Close.
Fifth former, Lydia Ward, also won the more complex Individual Novice Section beating very strong competition on the way. This means that Dean Close will have both a team and an individual representing Gloucestershire at the competition in April.
Head of Equestrianism, Fleur Cradock, said: “All the pupils rode extremely well and were a pleasure to be around. They represented the school exceptionally”.
Congratulations must also go to Fleur Cradock who has qualified with two horses for the Royal International Horse Show Finals.
