Joining Year 9

Pupils who join in Year 9 enter the Fourth Form at Dean Close School.  They will study English, Mathematics, French (or English as a second language), Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Latin or Classical Civilisation, Creative Studies and PSHE.   Spanish is studied as a second Modern Language by the majority; a small number study Spanish instead of French.  Classical Greek is taken by the most academically able.

Our Creative Studies carousel introduces pupils to a variety of artistic and creative subjects, embracing Art & Design, Drama, Food & Nutrition, Music, Physical Education and Product Design Technology. Every pupil has the opportunity to explore each of these subjects for learning and enjoyment, as well as to decide if they have an interest in pursuing some into their GCSEs.

Pupils start considering their GCSE subject options in the second term (Lent) of the Fourth Form, discussing their options with their Tutors in January/February and completing their choices early in the Trinity (summer) Term.
