During half term a team of girls travelled to Scotland for a mini Hockey Tour. The group stayed in Edinburgh for three days and two nights, during which time they played matches against Strathallan School, Mary Erskine Schooland Uddingston Hockey Club. There was also just enough time to squeeze in a ‘friendly’ with a reduced side against Repton on the way home.

The hockey girls returned to School victorious having won three games out of three. Kate Milne, manager of the girls 1st XI Hockey team, said: “Visiting Strathallan School was particularly memorable, as we were able to meet up with former Dean Close teachers Mr Hamill, Mr Kent and Mr McGowan, and we enjoyed a fabulous dinner after the match with all their coaches and players.” Katie Humphreys was awarded man of the match for scoring a brilliant hat trick.

At Mary Erskine School, the team was umpired by another former teacher Mr Talbot, and in a close fought game, Captain Jess Thomas scored another hat trick for the team to secure a victory for Dean Close. Later that evening, the girls played their last match against Uddingston Hockey Club, where they secured their third and final win.

Alongside the hockey, the girls enjoyed some free time in Edinburgh, looking around the beautiful city, seeing the university and enjoying numerous team meals. Director of Hockey, Gary Tredgett, said: “There was great team spirit and camaraderie throughout the trip, with Captain, Jess Thomas, and Vice-Captain, Maddie Pendle, keeping everyone entertained with songs and games on the long coach trips!”
