One highlight of my school week is joining the Prep School pupils for their weekly session of ‘Congo’ in the Centenary Hall. This is an opportunity for the exuberant Mr McVittie to rehearse with the children the hymns and songs of worship that will be sung in our Friday service. I am delighted that there is such enthusiasm for congregational singing at Dean Close, since I am a great believer that a communal activity such as this contributes much to each pupil’s well-being. Not only is it an opportunity for pupils to participate at a spiritual, emotional and physical level with which they feel comfortable, but it also reinforces the sense of being part of a united community. If volume and wholehearted participation in Congo is anything to go by, then it appears that we are certainly a school in excellent voice!
