A Day at Sandfield Farm

Last week, our Reception classes were thrilled to wake up to beautiful weather for their first school trip of the year – a visit to the farm. Excitement filled the air as the day began with a cheerful singalong on the coach, setting the tone for the adventure ahead.
Upon arrival, the children were warmly welcomed by Farmer Emma and her friendly farm dogs, Fly and Frank. Farmer Emma shared stories about the three farms she runs and explained the different activities that take place on each one. The children were fascinated as she led them on a tour, showing where the animal feed is stored and where the cows will stay during the winter months.
The next stop was the orchard. Buckets in hand, the children enthusiastically picked apples until every bucket was full. From there, they crossed the fields to meet the cows – a definite highlight of the day. The children loved feeding them apples and seeing them up close.

After all the excitement, it was time to return to the cabin for a well-earned lunch. But the fun didn’t end there. In the afternoon, everyone enjoyed the farm’s forest play area, where they climbed through tunnels, hid in tractor wheels, and got wonderfully messy in the mud kitchen.
The teachers were incredibly proud of how well the children behaved throughout the day. It was a fantastic trip and a memorable start to their school adventure – one we’re sure they’ll be talking about for weeks to come!
