Celebration WOW Day in the Pre-Prep

On Wednesday 5th November, our Reception classes enjoyed an action-packed day of activities exploring both Fireworks Night and the Hindu festival of Diwali.

The day began with an exploration of how Diwali is celebrated around the world. The children were lucky to hear from Mrs Radley who shared memories from her recent trip to India and showed some examples of beautiful traditional clothing. Next on the menu were ‘edible sparklers,’ a fun, tasty treat that proved to be so delicious, they were all quickly eaten for morning snack!

After break, pupils listened to the Diwali story and learned about the importance of Diva lamps. Inspired by what they had seen, everyone had a turn at shaping their own lamps from clay. Once dry, they will be painted and decorated to take home and share with families.

To finish off the day, the learning moved outdoors to Forest School where a Firework Phonics Hunt was waiting. The classes searched for letters and words they recognised and were even more excited to gather around the campfire and make scrumptious s’mores.

Everyone returned home full of smiles, telling stories from a wonderful day of discovery and celebration.
