Contemporary Classics in the Bacon Theatre with Katy Cawkwell

This week, our Classics pupils enjoyed a gripping and interactive performance from Katy Cawkwell, a professional storyteller creating contemporary performances based on traditional narratives. Her piece was centred around one of the most famous poems in Latin literature - the Aeneid by Virgil.

The performance began with the tales of the Trojan war, retelling the great odyssey of the Trojan hero Aeneas.

Whilst this first myth laid the path for the future of Rome, the performance’s second part retold the story of the twin brothers Romulus and Remus, the descendants of Aeneas and founders of Rome.

Katy Cawkwell’s passionate performance and innovative storytelling of ancient myths were a truly inspiring contribution to our pupils’ knowledge of classics. Her ability to catch the audience’s attention entirely by herself on stage and leaving time for questions created an environment in which they could learn about literature in a more interactive and engaging way.
