Dean Close Celebrates Another Memorable Speech Day

Speech Day marked a fitting end to another successful academic year at Dean Close, as pupils, families, staff, and Old Decanians came together to celebrate achievement, reflect on the year, and enjoy a day full of tradition and community spirit.

The morning's Speech Day ceremony recognised the dedication and accomplishments of pupils across the School, with prizes presented in honour of academic, sporting, creative, and personal achievements. A series of heartfelt speeches reflected on the memories, friendships, and experiences that have shaped the year, creating many emotional moments for pupils and families alike.

We were delighted to welcome Kathryn Carden, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Dean Close Foundation, as this year's Guest of Honour. As she bids farewell to the Foundation, her inspiring address encouraged pupils to embrace every opportunity ahead while recognising the importance of resilience, curiosity, and kindness.

The celebrations continued across the School. Families relaxed together with picnics on the lawns while pupils enjoyed the ever popular fun fair. Guests were also treated to the traditional serving of strawberries, cream, and freshly baked scones. Our sincere thanks go to current parent Stuart Taylor of Newberry International Produce Ltd for kindly supplying the delicious strawberries.

The Bon Bernard Gallery showcased an exceptional exhibition of GCSE and A Level Art, offering visitors the opportunity to admire the creativity, originality, and technical excellence of our talented young artists.

We also welcomed back many familiar faces as Old Decanians returned for the annual cricket and rugby matches, continuing a much loved tradition and providing a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with the School community.

Speech Day remains one of the highlights of the Dean Close calendar, bringing together generations of the School community to celebrate the achievements of our pupils and the values that make Dean Close such a special place.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a memorable occasion, and we wish all of our pupils, families, and staff a wonderful summer break.
