Dean Close Pupils Take on Brecht’s Timeless Classic

This year’s school play promises to be a theatrical tour de force as Dean Close pupils present Bertolt Brecht's The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui. The production will take to the stage at the Bacon Theatre on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 November.

Written in 1941, Brecht’s parable play is a satirical commentary on the rise of power and corruption. It follows the fictional Arturo Ui, a scheming mobster in 1930s Chicago, as he ruthlessly takes control of the city’s vegetable trade. Through its darkly humorous lens, the play closely mirrors Adolf Hitler’s rise to power, making it as thought-provoking today as when it was first performed.

Audiences can expect a fast-paced production filled with biting wit and compelling performances from the talented Dean Close cast. Whether you’re a seasoned Brecht enthusiast or discovering his work for the first time, this production is sure to captivate.

Entry is free, with no tickets required—simply arrive at the Bacon Theatre on the night to experience this gripping tale of power, corruption, and cauliflower!
