Lower Sixth Geography Pupils Enjoy Successful Field Trip to Slapton

Thirty Lower Sixth Geography pupils returned yesterday from a highly successful field trip to the Field Studies Centre in Slapton, where they spent the weekend developing key fieldwork skills and gathering data for their Non Examined Assessment (NEA) projects.

The trip began on Friday with pupils practising a range of physical geography fieldwork data collection methods. They also visited Torcross, a seaside community that experienced significant storm damage earlier this year, providing an important opportunity to observe the impacts of extreme weather events first hand and consider the challenges faced by coastal communities.

On Saturday, pupils travelled to a variety of coastal, woodland and agricultural locations to carry out detailed investigations that will form the foundation of their NEA coursework. Throughout the day, pupils demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm, commitment and curiosity in their work, often eager to continue their investigations long after staff had suggested it was time to rest.

The weekend concluded on Sunday with a GIS workshop led by the course tutor, where pupils learnt valuable new techniques for presenting and analysing geographical data using digital mapping technology.

Staff were delighted with the pupils’ engagement and positive attitude throughout the trip. The group were a pleasure to spend the weekend with and represented the School superbly at all times.

We now look forward to seeing the completed projects later in the year and wish all pupils every success as they continue their investigations.
