Talks@ presents Nick Butter

Inspirational is the perfect word used by one of our pupils to describe Nick Butter, who we were delighted to welcome into school this week.

Inspirational is the perfect word used by one of our pupils to describe Nick Butter.  From his first marathon, aged 11, to now having completed an amazing 1032, we were delighted to welcome him into school this week to share with us stories from his incredible endurance adventures.

Nick started his sporting career as part of the GB under 19’s ski team, but despite his love for sport and after facing several injuries, was persuaded by his parents to get a ‘real job’ and found himself working in the world of finance.  This, however, did not last long.  After having to decline the opportunity to run with the Red Bull team in the Caribbean because of his job, he soon realised this was not the path for him.  He had given up his passion and so, full of courage and without looking back he jumped feet first into the world of endurance running.

Nick shared with us stories from his amazing feat of becoming the first person to run a marathon in every country of the world.  The pupils were fascinated by the beautiful imagery he shared, including photos from North Korea, and of the many struggles he had to overcome, including running in 59 degree heat in Kuwait and, after 2 years of careful planning, having everything he had with him stolen on day 16 of his trip.

One pupil said ‘he has taught me how important it is to persevere’ with another stating ‘he gave me food for thought on making sure I follow my passions.’

Nick is a great example of someone who is flourishing in what he does and we hope he’s left pupils feeling inspired to follow their own dreams too.
