Vanessa and Haden Take Centre Stage at the Royal Albert Hall
Vanessa and Haden enjoyed an unforgettable moment in their musical journeys when they stepped onto the stage of the Royal Albert Hall to perform at the Music for Youth Proms in London. Representing the Gloucestershire Youth String Orchestra, they joined over 3,000 young performers from across the country for a night filled with excitement, achievement and celebration.
Both pupils performed Orawa by Wojciech Kilar, a technically demanding and powerful piece that allowed them to demonstrate not only their musical skill but also their dedication to working as part of a unified ensemble. The composition creates a vivid picture of the Tatra Mountain range through repetitive motifs and striking harmonies. It is known for its energy and complexity and Vanessa and Haden played a key role in bringing this dramatic musical landscape to life on one of the most iconic stages in the world.
For the two young musicians the evening was far more than a concert. It was a chance to experience performing at the highest level while surrounded by more than 1500 other pupils from across the country. Every performer contributed to an atmosphere filled with pride, creativity and joy.
Nick Steel, the conductor of the Gloucestershire Youth String Orchestra, expressed immense pride in the pupils saying that they performed with style, energy and commitment. Their achievement reflects the hard work they put in at weekly rehearsals as well as their willingness to take on challenging repertoire.
Lisa Mayo, Head of Gloucestershire Music, emphasised:
“Performing at The Royal Albert Hall is a wonderful way to celebrate the excellence of our County’s young musicians and is so well deserved. It reflects the high standards we see from all of our County Music Groups on a weekly basis. Playing a musical instrument has so many benefits but the most enjoyable way to be a musician is to play with others and we create those opportunities for all levels of musician (including adults!). Along with our GSW Hub partners, we are proud to collectively provide a wonderfully eclectic and broad provision for the students in our Hub area.”
The event was an inspiring milestone and a memory that will stay with them as they continue their musical journeys.
