Wild Hair, Big Hearts as Prep and Pre-Prep Fundraise for Cancer Care with ‘Tame Your Mane Day
Dean Close Prep and Pre-Prep were bursting with colour, creativity, and community spirit today as pupils and staff took part in a brilliantly bold Tame Your Mane Day — all in support of the Big Space Cancer Appeal.
From dazzling mohawks and glittery braids to tinsel-topped buns and wild, wonderful wigs, the school was transformed into a sea of imaginative hairstyles. The laughter was loud, the styles were outrageous, and the purpose was meaningful: raising funds to help build a new, state-of-the-art cancer care centre right here in Gloucestershire.
The event forms part of Dean Close’s wider involvement in the Pride of Gloucestershire Lions at Large Trail, a summer-long community initiative combining art, fundraising, and awareness-raising in aid of the cancer appeal. A highlight for the pupils has been designing and decorating their very own lion sculpture, affectionately named Lennox, which will proudly feature in the trail alongside creations from across the county.
Earlier this term, the Prep School’s much-loved Charity Fayre raised over £3,000, with pupils leading stalls, games, and activities to support the cause. Combined with the success of Tame Your Mane Day and generous donations via the school’s JustGiving page, the total is now approaching £4,000 — a testament to the community’s generosity and shared commitment to making a difference.
The Lions at Large Trail will run throughout the summer, inviting families and visitors to follow the trail, admire the lions, and support the Big Space Cancer Appeal — all while celebrating the power of community coming together for good.
