Dean Close Senior School Celebrates Stories, Dreams and Discoveries on World Book Day

This week, we celebrated World Book Day, and it was wonderful to see our pupils completely immersed in their stories, each one embarking on exciting new adventures. The day consisted of many different activities, including Big Read lessons from Period 1 through to Period 5, a World-Book-Day Quiz Special and a Costume Character Hunt.

In each lesson, we created an environment in which our pupils could dive deep into the world of books in a variety of ways — whether it was a group read, listening to an audiobook, or exploring other creative approaches to storytelling.

Even outside of lessons, pupils had the opportunity to wander around special stands set up in the library, where they could use their £1 Book Tokens in our Charity Book Sale to grab a new book whilst indulging in some delicious doughnuts. During lunch, our staff also set up a fantastic book stand filled with a range of genres — from fantasy and contemporary to classic tales — so everyone could find something to spark their interest.

Congratulations to Lexy and Tabitha of Team 2.5 - the rightful winners of the quiz and to Sansa Stark, Miss Trunchbull, Esio Trot, Callum McGregor, Susan Sto Helit, Jack Reacher, Mantis, Garfield, Elphaba, the Hogwarts student, Willy Wonka, The Atlas, Paul Atreides, and Stanley Yelnats IV for bringing some of our favourite books to life!

It was amazing to see our pupils engaged with all the activities, and we’re thrilled that many of them even found a brand-new book to dive into!
