World Book Day at Dean Close Pre-Prep: A Celebration of Stories and Imagination

Dean Close Pre-Prep was filled with colour, creativity, and a love for reading as we celebrated World Book Day with a host of engaging activities. This year, we explored the delightful book The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt, a fun and imaginative story that sparked creativity across all year groups.

Each class brought the story to life in their own way. Our youngest learners in Nursery and Kindergarten explored the world of colours through art and sensory activities, while Reception and
Year 1 focused on the crayons’ feelings and letter-writing, encouraging early literacy skills. Throughout the day, children enjoyed storytelling, creative writing, and hands-on craft activities, making connections with the story in a way that was meaningful to them.

The highlight of the day was our whole-school sharing session, where each class proudly showcased their work. To wrap up the celebrations, we gathered to enjoy the follow-up book,
The Day the Crayons Came Home, bringing our storytelling journey full circle.

The national theme, "Read Your Own Way," was a key focus throughout the day, encouraging
children to embrace reading for pleasure in a way that excites and inspires them. From dressing up
as their favourite book characters to exploring stories in fun and interactive ways, it was a truly
special day that reinforced the joy of books and imagination.

We can’t wait to see the wonderful work displayed in school as a reminder of this fantastic celebration of reading.
