World-Class Pianist Clare Hammond Inspires Dean Close Musicians

We were delighted to welcome acclaimed concert pianist Clare Hammond for an inspiring day of music-making, culminating in an outstanding public recital in the Helen Porter Hall.

Described by The Times as a pianist of "extraordinary power", Clare spent the afternoon working with a number of our pupils in a special masterclass. Pupils were given a rare opportunity to learn from one of the country's leading performers, gaining valuable insights into tone, technique, phrasing, musicality and the art of communicating with an audience.

The session proved both inspiring and informative, offering participants expert guidance that challenged and encouraged them to develop their own performances and musical understanding.

Later that evening, Music Scholars and members of the wider community gathered to hear Clare perform a recital that recently sold out at London's prestigious Wigmore Hall. The programme showcased a remarkable range of repertoire, featuring works by Rachmaninov, Stravinsky and Chopin, alongside a contemporary commission by E.R. Richards.

The recital demonstrated not only Clare's extraordinary technical skills but also her ability to captivate and connect with listeners through every piece she performed.

The visit was a brilliant opportunity for our young musicians to experience a world-class performance and to learn from one of the leading pianists of her generation.
