Year Two Enjoy a Royal-Themed WOW Day

Last week our classrooms were filled with Kings, Queens, Princes, Princesses and even a dragon or two when our Year Two’s came to school dressed to impress and ready to celebrate all things royal.

The day began with pupils creating their own crowns, which will have a second use when they become Christmas party hats later in the term. This was followed by an exciting morning in the hall, where everyone used a wide range of materials, along with their carefully collected junk-modelling items from home, to build impressive 3D dragons. Children showed fantastic creativity and perseverance, making full use of our 5Cs (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, compassion, communication) as they planned their designs, experimented with ways to attach different parts, and solved problems when things didn’t go quite right the first time around. It was wonderful to see them supporting and encouraging one another throughout.

In the afternoon, the royal theme continued. In French, the children labelled dragons, before moving on to design their own castles, which they will bring to life in clay later this week. They also explored the lives of Kings and Queens, focusing particularly on Queen Victoria. To end the day, everyone became true history detectives, working together to uncover facts such as where Queen Victoria lived and how long she reigned.

It was a busy, exciting day full of royal creativity. Well done, Year Two!
