Family Space Blind Auction and Easter Newsletter (all parents)

Our chosen charity for this year, Family Space, have received a donation of two enclosure tickets to the Cheltenham Race Meeting on April 17th, 2019. A blind, sealed auction will be held at school to raise the highest amount we can for the tickets.

If you would like to enter the auction, please give your sealed bid to the front office before Wednesday 27th March, 10.00am. The highest bid will be the winner and they will be notified later that day. In the event of a draw, the joint winners will be informed and asked to provide a final increase to their bid. The highest will then win.

Why not join in and help boost the Family Space funds in this way?

Please click here to access the newsletter from Family Space to hear about the involvement of DCPS pupils in their new year celebration of volunteers and friends of the charity, attended by the Bishop of Gloucester. In addition to this, pupils have collected boxes and boxes of books for younger children, allowing Family Space to create a reading corner at their centre in Cheltenham

Starting and Stopping Music Lessons

Please can we remind parents that the deadline for signing up for music lessons starting in the Trinity Term, is Friday 29th March 2019. To stop lessons requires a whole term’s notice.  If you wish for your child to stop lessons at the end of the Trinity Term, you must inform us by the end of the first week of the Trinity Term.

Any queries, or if you wish to start or stop an instrument, please email Mr McVittie or Mrs Godley at

Forest School (parents in Year 3, Year 4 and Year 8)

Forest School will begin in the first week of the Trinity Term. In addition to our regular visits to the woods there are four special events:

Year 3 – ‘Stay Late in Forest School’

This will take place on Wednesday 15th May, from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. Year 3 children will change into their Forest School kit at the end of school and then, after Buns, we will wander down to the site. There will be a selection of exciting activities to try, along with some of the old favourites we do each week.  We will have a packed tea (provided by School) and then light a fire to cook some extra treats to enjoy while the sun goes down. Just as dusk gives way to the evening, we will return to School and the children can be collected from the Rickerby playground at 8.00pm.

Please ensure that your child has enough layers to keep them warm when the temperature drops. Children can bring their own torches, but they will be the child’s responsibility.

Year 3 and 4 – ‘Come and join us in Forest School’

Years 3 and 4 welcome their parents to join their child for an open session of Forest School on Thursday 16th May. Year 4 parents are invited to come along between 10.00am and 11.00am, Year 3 parents from 3.30pm and 4.20pm.  The children will have a normal Forest School session but would very much enjoy showing you what they do and why they love Forest School so much.  Please join us for the session your child will be attending, reporting at the Front Office before coming down to Forest School.

Please come prepared wearing wellies, over trousers and long sleeves.

Year 4 – ‘Supper in the Sticks’

Year 4 can look forward to enjoying a feast in Forest School next term, cooked on an open fire, on Friday 17th May from 5.00pm to 8.30pm.

Children will change into their Forest School kit after Buns and spend the remainder of the day outside, preparing and cooking their supper. There will also be the opportunity to do other activities before heading back to school at 8.30pm, where they can be collected from the Rickerby playground.

Extra layers are advisable for when the temperature drops.

Year 8 – An Evening for Year 8 Leavers in Forest School

This is a new initiative and will have limited spaces. Come along to Forest School on Sunday 16th June, cook supper and enjoy being outside with friends.  The session will run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.  Further details will follow.

If you have any queries about any of the above, please contact Mrs Hunt on

Bag2School Chorister Fundraising (all parents)

The Choristers would love your help in raising money for their forthcoming tour to Sweden!

They have decided once again to organise Bag2School – an initiative whereby you (and all your family, friends and neighbours) clear out your cupboards and wardrobes and donate unwanted textiles for recycling. You can drop bags at Dean Close Prep School between Monday 3rd and Wednesday 5th June for the Choristers to receive money dependent on the total weight collected, ie the more bags, the more money (and less landfill – it’s a win win!) Please click here to access further information.

Branded bags will be distributed before Half Term in May (or you can use any bags, not just branded ones) and bring to school on the dates mentioned above (only on those days please, due to storage issues). Collection by Bag2School will be on Thursday 6th June.

The boys would be so grateful for your help, thank you! If you have any queries, please contact

Parent Workshop (all parents)
