General notices

Mobile Phone Policy (all day parents)

As you are aware, the Parents’ Handbook highlights the aim to make DCPS a mobile ‘phone free zone for day pupils (Boarders have their own guidelines).

However, there are some exceptional circumstances when it is necessary for a child to bring a mobile into school. On these occasions the mobile ‘phone must be handed in immediately the child arrives in school to the Housemaster/mistress for safe keeping during normal school hours, the phone must never be taken into the changing rooms and should only be used once the child has left the school grounds.

Recently, it has been noted that several children are bringing mobile phones into school and we therefore feel it necessary to remind you of the procedure regarding the granting of this special permission.

Pupils are only allowed mobile ‘phones in school if they have had permission from the Deputy Head, Operations and Complianace, Mr Jonathan Harris. If you have not done so already, then please contact me in writing requesting consent, if you consider it imperative that your son or daughter has a mobile ‘phone in school. Permission is required for any time children want to bring their phones into school e.g. an occasional use or a one off occasion.

It should be noted that children can, with permission, use a House landline during the School day. In accordance with our School Policy there will be periodic checks to make sure that mobiles are not being kept in School bags or pockets.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation in this matter.

Parents’ Talk by Dave Parvin, Monday 21st January 7.00pm

Prep School parents are welcome to join parents from the senior school for an informative and insightful evening with Dave Parvin from Drugs Sense UK. He will be speaking about his experience of the illegal drugs scene in the UK and the parents who attended his previous presentation at the school gave incredibly positive feedback.

The event will be held in the Prince Michael Hall from 7.00pm to 8.30pm.

Information on Exeat and the House Swimming Gala, Friday 25th January (all parents)

Friday, 25th January is the start of the Exeat Weekend for Dean Close Prep School. It is also our annual House Swimming Gala. Please note the following:

  • Selection for the House Swimming Gala is based on performances in swim training or PE lessons.
  • It is helpful if all pupils have their swimming kit in school in case other pupils are absent.
  • All pupils swimming should be wearing their house polo shirt.
  • Please could all parents at the Swimming Gala note that there is no filming or photography allowed in the swimming pool due to Child Protection requirements.
  • At the end of the Gala pupils may be signed out from the swimming pool. If you would like to use this option, then please email the house so that they are aware.
  • All other pupils will be taken back to DCPS and can be signed out from houses from 4.00pm.
  • On Exeat weekends we ask that all pupils be picked up by 5.00pm.
  • Please could all Year 4 and Year 8 pupils come to school in their PE kit. The PE programme has been changed so that all pupils in these two year groups can do some PE on Friday.
  • Parents are welcome to join the school for our chapel service which, on this occasion, starts at 12.00pm. Please do aim to be seated at least ten minutes before the service is due to begin.
  • There are no after school activities on Exeat Fridays.
  • All day pupils should take all their games kit, footwear and swimming bags home.

To help with parking we would also like to suggest the following options:

  1. There is parking available on Humpty Dumpty, please click here to access a Google map.
  2. Please try alternative parking places found on Shelburne Road, Hatherley Court Road (please be considerate to residents by not blocking driveways) or by the Sports Hall.
  3. On Friday, if collecting from DCS straight after the House Swimming Gala there is parking available on the tennis courts by the Bacon Theatre and by the astro turf pitches.
