Highlights of the Week

  • Last week saw the hockey and netball players in school for pre-season ahead of the new term.
  • On Monday evening the 4th Form parents had a presentation on GCSE options and a talk from Mrs Davis on Pastoral Perspectives. A copy of her presentation can be found below.
  • The 5th and Upper 6th Form have been writing their trial exams this week and this will no doubt give them a useful benchmark going forward.
  • Our U16 and U18 girls and boys are all competing in the Indoor Hockey National Finals and we wish them best of luck as they compete at the very highest level of school competition.

Spring Concert

Sunday 9 February, Pittville Pump Room

Chapel Choir joins forces with Choral Society for their annual concert each spring; this year, they will be performing Puccini’s Messa di Gloria at the Spring Concert in Pittville Pump Room on Sunday 9th February.  In a change from past years, we have excused the pupils from Choral Society’s weekly evening rehearsals this year, but it is imperative that they all attend the last rehearsal on Tuesday 4 February 7.00pm to 8.30pm in the PMH, please; supper will be available in school for day pupils.  The concert on 9th February begins at 7.00pm and there will also be a rehearsal in the Pump Room during the afternoon – timings for this will be published nearer the time.  It is a complex piece, so any members of Chapel Choir who would like to come to other Tuesday evening rehearsals before then would be very welcome (7.00 – 8.00pm)!

The dress code for this concert is

Girls: long dresses (all black) – shoulders to be covered and dresses not to be too tight or revealing

Boys: either DJ with black bow tie or all black (black or school uniform trousers with a long sleeved, buttoned black shirt, open neck)

Tickets will be needed for the Spring Concert and information will be included in the weekly mailing in due course.

Parents’ TENNIS

We extend our facilities and our expertise to all parents! Dean Close Services run weekly group Tennis lessons as an opportunity for parents to meet, socialise, improve their tennis skills, get fit and have fun.

We would like to promote the availability in the Beginner’s Group, which runs weekly in term time on Mondays, from 9am – 10am with Tom Harris. If you haven’t picked up a racket before and would like to give Tennis a try or are a little rusty and want to ease back into your game, then why not come along to the sessions! First session of the Lent Term starts on Monday 13 January.

Don’t forget we also run Cardio Tennis each Wednesday in term time, from 9am – 9.45am, which you can just come along to each week. Cardio started back on Wednesday 8 January and is taken by either Jason Poole or Tom Harris.

All sessions take place on the Shelburne courts near the School Sports Hall.

If you would like further details or would like to book onto the sessions, please contact Lydia Day on: enquiries@deanclosevenues.co.uk or call 01242 267431.
