E-Safety Day, Tuesday 11th February (all parents)

As part of our ongoing work in PSHCE, as a school we mark a number of important days over the course of the year and we have one coming up next week. In 2020, Safer Internet Day in the UK will encourage young people to explore how they manage their online identity, and how the internet shapes how they think of themselves and others.

The aim is to celebrate difference and work towards creating a truly inclusive internet. The campaign will focus on what makes up your online identity – such as the facts or characteristics about you, how others perceive and interact with you, as well as how online services identify you. It will also look at how offline stereotypes and discrimination are challenged or reinforced online. In school we will look at whether the internet allows young people to express themselves, or if they feel limited in who they can be online.

These issues will also be explored in PSHCE lessons, and some Tuesday and Thursday break-time activities too. Miss C. Rubringer has a Digital Escape Room planned where to get out of one virtual reality room and progress to the next, pupils will have to answer the e-safety question!

Any questions, please do feel free to email Mrs S. Davies (sadavies@deanclose.org.uk)

Parent Workshop – ‘Sleep – encouraging and developing good habits in our children’, Wednesday 12th February (all parents)

The next Parent Workshop is on Wednesday 12th February, running from 7.00-8.00pm, with drinks beforehand at 6.45pm. The topic is: ‘Sleep – encouraging and developing good habits in our children’.

As well as a presentation from a trained sleep practitioner, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and share concerns and experiences.  Please let Mrs L. Hunt (lahunt@deanclose.org.uk) know by Monday 10th February if you would like to attend.

Half Term, Friday 14th February (all parents)

Friday 14th February is Half Term for the whole community. All parents are warmly invited to attend our Chapel service that begins at 2.45pm in the School Chapel. Pupils may leave for Half Term straight after Chapel which should be from 3.30pm.

In order to ease congestion at the front of school any pupils may be picked up from the Chapel. Pupils should be signed out from house staff who will be in the old gym, which is by the swimming pool. Pupils being picked up from here will have been asked to take all their belongings to the old gym where they will be stored until pick up. If you are using the option of picking up after Chapel from the old gym please could you inform the Day/Boarding House.

All other pupils will be taken back to DCPS and can be signed out from houses from 3.35pm. At half term we ask that all pupils be picked up by 5.00pm.

To help with parking we would also like to suggest the following options:

  1. If collecting from DCS straight after Chapel there is parking available on the tennis courts by the Bacon Theatre and by the astro turf pitches.
  2. Sports Hall
  3. Shelburne Road and Hatherley Court Road (please be considerate to residents by not blocking driveways).

Close Community Clay Pigeon Shooting, Friday 6th March (all parents)

Join Old Decanians, Staff, Current and Past Parents for a morning of shooting and tuition at Ian Coley Sporting.
