As we near the end of term, we are conscious that the Dean Close Community is as busy as ever. Last night’s Junior Public Speaking Competition demonstrated the range of issues that our pupils think about, or indeed are wrestling with on a daily basis. The speakers performed with such confidence, eloquence and sincerity.
Our 1st XI hockey competed against Repton for a place in the National Semi-Finals on Tuesday, but unfortunately even the elements were against them as they battled through a sleet and hail storm which forced them off the pitch for 45 minutes. The Golf team recorded a good win against Marlborough College and the Rosslyn Park Sevens saw some terrific rugby being played by all the boys involved.
As we head inexorably towards the end of term, we look forward to the House Hockey and the Sherratt Music Prize Competitions next week, as well as the Lower and Upper 6th Parents’ Evenings.
Dean Close Interschools Show Jumping Competition
Once again, Dean Close is host to its own NSEA Show Jumping Competition at Rectory Farm, Duntisbourne Abbots, Nr Cirencester on Sunday, June 11th, 2017. We have 5 Classes, of which 3 are national qualifiers for both teams and individuals at 90cms, 1m and 1,10m, while the 70cms and 80cms classes will, for the first time, count towards the Regional Points League Competition for Schools.
It is an extremely popular show attracting many competitors from other schools. Last year we had over 200 competitors. Being so well attended, this is an excellent showcase for sponsors to get their business promoted on the schedule, in the programme, on the rosettes and trophies.
We have already had some very generous offers of sponsorship for which we are hugely grateful, but there are still some opportunities to be had. Please see the attached letter for further details.
This is notification that our Term Dates are published on the School’s Website and can be found by following this link. We have 18 weeks of scheduled holiday during the School academic year, and we ask parents to be mindful of term dates when booking family holidays.

Ride for Ryder heads back to Dean Close
A charity cycle sportive will be riding back into the School on Sunday 25 June 2017 to help raise funds for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, starting and finishing from our Shelburne Road Sports Complex site.
We are pleased to be able to offer our support and facilities for the second year running, and we are encouraging as many students, parents and staff to take part as possible, to help raise funds for the hospice, which is home to the only inpatient unit in Gloucestershire, giving 24/7 specialist hospice care, alongside its day services and hospice at home team.
With a beginner 35km route, intermediate 90km and experienced 130km route through glorious Cotswold countryside, the hospice is offering a special discounted early bird offer if you sign up before the 17th April. All those signing up online in advance will receive a free hot meal voucher post race, and if you raise over £100 in fundraising you will receive a limited edition Sue Ryder cycling jersey too.
You can sign up online now atwww.sueryder.org/rideforrydersportive
