On Tuesday 6th May, the Year Two children had a fantastic trip to kick start their topic on Cheltenham. They went to ‘The Wilson’ for a workshop about Georgian Cheltenham where they looked at old photographs of Cheltenham and had the chance to dress up in period costumes. They also learnt that the High Street had a river running through it and people had to cross the road by using stepping stones!
As the weather was lovely we were able to go to Pittville Park for a picnic lunch before looking at Pittville Pump Rooms and the Bandstand.
In the afternoon we had a guided tour of Cheltenham Racecourse. Rosemary from the Jockey Club took us along ‘Horse Walk’ towards the jockey’s weighing room. This was very exciting as normally non-jockeys are not allowed in there; some of the Champion jockeys had signed their pegs when they won a race. We also found out just how large the jumps were when we went for a gallop on the course! As an extra special treat everyone was presented with an after we had visited the Hall of Fame – very exciting!
